LITTLE WOMEN Musical in 2 Acts: Music and Lyrics by Lionel Segal ; Book by Peter Layton (based on the story Little Women by Louisa May Alcott Lost Theatre, South Lambeth - 12th December, 2011 - 7th January 2012 (Season) SYNOPSIS Set in New England during the Civil War, Reverend March is away ministering to the Federal troops. He leaves behind in Concord, Massachusetts matriarch Mrs March (Marmee) with their four daughters, Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy who through the course of the musical turn from young girls into women. Jo is headstrong, tomboy like, passionate and an aspiring writer. Despite her protestations she works for her wealthy Aunt March as a lady's companion bringing in much needed funds for the family. In her spare time she writes stories in the little attic room, dreaming of becoming a famous writer. It is Jo who puts pen to paper and weaves the tale of her sister's trials and tribulations as they grow up experiencing poverty, love, friendship and the importance of family. This well loved story is a celebration of women breaking the mold and achieving success both in work and life. The show explores themes of family, ambition, the struggle of poverty, and well before its time this tale fights for women's rights to work as well as publish books in their own name. This poignant and timeless classic is the perfect Christmas show for all the family.
