ENDLICH ALLEIN (Alone at Last) (Music by Franz Lehár: Book and lyrics by A. M. Willner and Robert Bodanzky) Theater an der Wien - 10 February, 1914 Revised as Schön is die Welt (1931) SYNOPSIS A marriage is to take place between the impoverished, not-too-bright Count and Dolly, an eccentric and extremely wealthy American girl. Before taking this step, she longs for a romantic adventure and the Alpine scenery around her seems a perfect backdrop. The mountain guide who takes her climbing is actually a baron in disguise, who has long loved her, and when they reach the mountain summit and an avalanche means they must spend the night together in splendid isolation, her dream has come true. The basic plot, broad structure and some of the music of Schön ist die Welt were taken over from Endlich allein but the characters were new, the libretto rewritten, and several new musical numbers added. Principals: 3 Female, 3 Male, SATB Chorus. Sets: 3 Orchestra: 2222/4331/Timp/Perc/Cel/Hp/Strings Language Versions: G. L. S.
